The selected title for the 2009 One Book - One Lincoln was announced on August 31st, 2009. This year's book is People of the Book, by Geraldine Brooks. Throughout September, October and November 2009, Lincolnites are once again encouraged to read the same book, then join other readers in attending book discussions and special programming events based on the topics and themes of the book. Midwest mystery fans enjoyed attending the 10th annual Mayhem in the Midlands Mystery Convention, sponsored by the Omaha Public Library. The 10th Mayhem was held over the 2009 Memorial Day weekend in Omaha (May 21-24, 2009), at its traditional location -- the Embassy Suites in downtown Omaha (555 S. 10th St.). The Guest of Honor for 2009 was Dana Stabenow, author of Kate Shugak mystery series. Toastmaster of Honor was Jan Burke, and the International Guest of Honor was Zoe Sharp.

Following the success of the first five years of One Book One Nebraska, featuring Willa Cather's My Antonia, Omaha mystery novelist Alex Kava's One False Move, Mari Sandoz' classic history text Crazy Horse, and Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn's autobiography Restoring the Burnt Child, the Nebraska Library Commission, the Nebraska Center for the Book, the Nebraska Library Association, the Nebraska Regional Library Systems and other organizations sponsored yet another year of One Book One Nebraska in 2009!
The 2009 selected title is Bess Streeter Aldrich's classic, A Lantern in Her Hand. You can find more information about the 2005-2009 events at the official One Book One Nebraska Web site.

Fans of Romance Fiction joined with a dozen romance authors at each of Lincoln's three Turning the Pages of Romance conferences, in 2004, 2005 and 2006. These events, co-sponsored by the Lincoln City Libraries and the Omaha Public Library, proved to be a popular way to meet and interact with professional romance authors from the midwest each Spring.
